Marco Jansen bulldozed Team India on Day 3 as South Africa assumed full control of the series-deciding second Test. Simon Harmer also sustained his wicket-taking spree for South Africa after an early onslaught from Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of Day 3 of the second Test of the two-match series between India and South Africa, as it panned out at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday, November 24.
Marco Jansen scythes through India with record six-fer
Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul composed 65 runs for the first wicket before the latter got his 63-ball start squandered away by Keshav Maharaj for 22. Jaiswal, however, struck a belligerent half-century, smacking 58 runs from 97 balls with seven fours and a six.
With India reaching 95-1, Simon Harmer struck back for South Africa with the quick wickets of Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan, before lanky paceman Marco Jansen frolicked through India’s middle and lower-order with a sensational six-wicket haul. The speedster mopped up the entire Indian line-up for just 201 in 83.5 overs, thus claiming figures of 6-48 to record one of the best spells by any South African on Indian soil.
Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar was the only other Indian to leave his mark with a notable contribution, getting an industrious 48 off 92.
South Africa openers survive till stumps
Emboldened with a 288-run first innings lead, South Africa opted to bat again late on Day 3, reaching 26-0 in eight overs to extend lead up to 314. Unbeaten Proteas openers Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram will resume the South Africa innings on Day 4 at 13* and 12* respectively.
