MI New York produced a power-hitting performance to win convincingly against Texas Super Kings by 7 wickets in Challenger of Major League Cricket 2025 at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, and secure a ticket to the grand finale with a dominant chase. MI will now take on Washington Freedom to battle it out for the final trophy.

Faf Du Plessis Fights Lone Battle For Texas

Batting first, Texas Super Kings lose wickets at quick intervals with 4 men down with just 72 runs on the board. Skipper Faf du Plessis chipped in with a brisk 59 off 42 to stabilise the innings, but none of the other top-order batters managed to stay long.

In the death overs, Akeal Hosein (55 off 32) and Donovan Ferreira (32 off 20) led a resilient counter-attack. After losing early wickets and slumping to 85/5, the sixth-wicket pair added an unbeaten 81-run partnership to propel Texas to a competitive total of 166 runs.

For MI New York, Tristan Luus picked up 3 wickets while Rushil Ugarkar contributed with 2 dismissals.

Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran’s Storm Leads MI New York To Final

Chasing 167 for victory, MI New York looked under slight pressure at 83/3 in the 13th over. Quinton de Kock and Mitchell Owen lost their wickets in the first 7 overs, but a sensational unbroken partnership between skipper Nicholas Pooran (52 off 36) and veteran Kieron Pollard (47 off 22) turned the tide completely.

The duo stitched together a rapid 89-run stand off just 39 balls. Pollard, the eventual Man of the Match, turned back the clock with a whirlwind knock. His clean hitting, with 4 fours and 3 sixes, tore apart the Texas bowling. 

Pooran, meanwhile, played a perfect foil, anchoring the chase while finding timely boundaries to keep the required rate in check. Their blistering stand sealed the game for MI New York with 6 deliveries to spare.

MI New York will now meet Washington Freedom in the final on July 13, with momentum firmly on their side.
