The highly-anticipated second semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 between New Zealand and South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium witnessed a shockingly low turnout. Despite the high stakes of the match, with the winner set to face India in the grand finale in Dubai, the empty stands became a major talking point on social media.  

Talking about the match, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. South Africa made just one change bringing in Temba Bavuma for Tristan Stubbs. However, the action on the field was overshadowed by the silence of the stadium. 

Fans Take to Twitter To Express Disappointment   

Cricket enthusiasts and social media users were quick to vent their frustration, with many blaming the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for failing to attract spectators. Hashtags like #EmptyStadium, #PCBFail trended on X (formerly Twitter), as fans ridiculed the lack of buzz for a crucial ICC event.  

Some fans pointed out the ticket pricing and scheduling issues, and some even stated that PCB should have allotted free entry for this second semi-final match. Meanwhile, a few users expressed disappointment over Pakistan missing out on a semi-final spot, suggesting that local interest dipped after the hosts’ exit.
