Kusal Mendis after his wicket (Source:@OfficialSLC/X.com)
Kusal Mendis, the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper batter, has not taken the field in Bangladesh's second innings. In his pace, Lahiru Udara is handling the wicketkeeping duties, and Pavan Rathnayake is on the ground as a substitute fielder.
The star wicketkeeper's absence in the second innings is because of the injury he suffered while batting in the first innings. Mendis injured his right shoulder because of the dive he put in to avoid being run out, and he is currently being assessed by the medical staff of the Sri Lankan team. The update has been provided by the official X handle of Sri Lanka Cricket, and it has been confirmed that he will undergo an MRI scan if his pain continues.
Kusal Mendis' Participation For Rest Of Colombo Test In Doubt
Kusal Mendis scored a brilliant 84 from 87 balls at number 7 before being run out in the 117th over of the innings. As soon as he made that desperate diving effort, the right-handed batter looked in pain and, after his wicket, walked off the field holding his right hand.
Also, the Sri Lankan cricket board has mentioned that Kusal Mendis might not take the field on Day 3. They would be hoping that he gets well till tomorrow and keeps wickets for Sri Lanka on Day 4.
The home team, however, is in a great position in the second Test, having managed a lead of 210 after the end of the first innings despite a fifer from Taijul Islam. They have also got early wickets in the second innings, and Kusal Mendis might not be needed to bat in the second outing, which would give him ample time to get fit for the ODI series.
