Kolkata Knight Riders' renowned finisher Rinku Singh sizzled with the bat, amassing a magnificent knock in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. Coming at number five, Rinku struck a glorious fifty, making his mark in India's premier red-ball competition.

KKR's Dynamic Duo Of Rinku And Nitish Shine For UP

After restricting Punjab to a paltry 210-run first-innings total, Uttar Pradesh had a shaky start to their innings, losing skipper Aryan Juyal off Gurnoor Brar's bowling for 16 runs. Despite getting a solid start, stylish batter Priyam Garg couldn't convert it into a significant score, being dismissed for 27 runs.

However, KKR's dependable batting duo of Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana came to UP's rescue, bailing them out of trouble with valiant half-centuries. While Madhav Kaushik frustrated Punjab with his grit at one end, Rinku Singh smashed eight fours and a six for his 68-run knock. The southpaw looked sublime during his 131-ball stay, sparking discussions for a potential Test selection.

Rana, on the other hand, played a perfect fiddle to Kaushik, scoring 66 runs off 106 deliveries. The left-handed batter, who came at number four, struck eleven gorgeous boundaries for his excellent innings.

Apart from these three players, Saurabh Kumar and Shivam Sharma made merry against Punjab's lacklustre bowling unit. As a result, Uttar Pradesh posted a mammoth 556-run total for the loss of nine wickets in their first innings.

Punjab Lose An Early Wicket Before Stumps

After UP declared their first innings, Punjab had a poor start to their second innings, losing the prized wicket of Abhay Choudhary. Vijay Kumar, who went wicketless in the first innings, drew the first blood for the visitors this time. With nine wickets in hand, Punjab still trail by 297 runs and need a miraculous batting effort to avoid an innings defeat.
