Why Karun Nair was dropped [Source: AP Photo]
The inevitable happened and Delhi Capitals batter, Karun Nair was dropped from the playing XI Vs Punjab Kings. The IPL 2025 match between the two sides holds utmost importance and interestingly, the batter was not even named on the bench by skipper Axar Patel.
Why was Karun Nair dropped?
However, the big question arises, why was he dropped? was it due to his poor form?.
The answer is yes, barring that one innings against Mumbai Indians, where he tore apart the Mumbai Indians attack with ease. He unleashed a barrage of boundaries and notched up a brilliant fifty. However, since then, there has been a string of low scores and hence, he was dropped for this key game.
In 7 matches, he has scored 154 runs at an healthy strike rate of 175. However, out of the 154, 89 came in one match Vs MI. So, 65 runs were scored in the next 6 innings as the batter found it hard to replicate the same form which he showed against Mumbai.
He was given ample chances, but the batter failed to capitalise. Plus, the team already has other star players to replace him and hence, DC had to take a bold call ahead of this game.
PBKS-DC fight for playoffs
Both PBKS and DC are fighting for a place in the playoffs. PBKS, interestingly can qualify for the knockouts if they manage to beat the Capitals tonight. However, if DC win the contest they will go to 15 points and will displace MI to reach at 4th place.
