The 46th fixture of the 2023 IPL season will be played between between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 3 at I.S Bindra Cricket Stadium in Mohali. The game is scheduled to commence at 19:30 local time.

The two teams have previously clashed in this year's IPL edition at Wankhede, where Sam Curran's quick fire heroics (55 off 29) with the bat helped Punjab Kings outsmart Mumbai Indians at home.

In this upcoming fixture, PBKS gear up to host MI at their home turf. The Mumbai based franchise would be looking to settle the scores and bounce back from their earlier defeat at Wankhede. With that said, let us closely evaluate how the pitch at I.S Bindra Stadium would behave.

Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium: Pitch Report

The deck at Mohali Cricket Stadium is relatively easy to bat on during first innings. With small boundary dimensions, batters can wreck havoc and score most of their runs in the form of sixes and fours. However, as time progresses the pitch begins to shift on the slower side allowing for consistent turn and bounce. Past statistics from the ground reveal that the team batting first have won 5 times whereas teams batting second have only won 4 times. This serves as a reminder that chasing at I.S Bindra will be no easy task for either side should they chose to bat last.

So far in IPL 2023, 4 games have been played in this venue where PBKS could only salvage one win against KKR in a rain effected game. The home team has a poor record at home and the MI think tank would surely be mindful of that. LSG posted 257-5 which was the higest score at this venue and also of this season where PBKS bowlers had a forgettable day. The lowest score ever recorded in this venue this season was from KKR who ended their second innings with a score of 146-7 falling agonisingly short by 7 runs.

The seamers featuring the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Mohit Sharma and Mohammed Siraj have certainly enjoyed bowling on this track. Unlike their spin bowling counterparts, the seamers extracted a great deal of pace and lateral movement from this deck which resulted in the undoing of several high profile batters.

As far as points table is concerned, MI are gradually gaining momentum and have climbed up to number 7 spot thanks to the brilliant last over heroics from Tim David. PBKS are just one spot ahead and find themselves placed at number 6 spot. PBKS have also registered an epic final ball victory in their previous fixture that have surely done their confidence a great deal of good.
