As per the latest updates made in the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings, team India has edged past and has sealed the number 1 spot in the rankings table. India added two more points, increasing their lead to 267 and putting them well ahead of the former T20 World Cup Champions. Regarding rating, India is 8 points ahead of England, currently in the second position sitting with a rating of 256.

In a statement by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the latest rankings have been adjusted by considering the total number of T20 games played since May 2020. Team India's T20I record has been nothing short of outstanding in the past three years. During this period, India looked nearly invincible as they triumphed in 13 T20I series and only went down to Sri Lanka by 2-1 in 2021, whilst one ended in a draw against South Africa last year.

India's recent World Cup T20 Performances

However, their performance in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cup editions has been a little concerning. Their 2021 World Cup campaign started on a disastrous note as India suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of their arch-rival Pakistan. That defeat lowered the team's morale, and their lack of confidence was evident when they went down to New Zealand by a margin of 8 wickets. After conceding heavy defeats to Pakistan and New Zealand, team India was shown the exit door somewhat prematurely. They came into the World Cup with solid hopes and aspirations but crashed dismally.

Moving on to the following year, India endured a more promising World Cup Campaign in 2022 down under. This time around, the Men in Blue were led by Rohit Sharma. Under his renewed leadership, India registered comprehensive victories against Pakistan, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Zimbabwe, only losing to South Africa in the group stages. However, once they made it to the semis, the mighty English side knocked them out of the World Cup and ruthlessly tore the Indian bowling apart.

Post 2022 World Cup heartbreak, team India resurrected their winning streak when they toured New Zealand that year and won the series by 1-0 amidst an unprecedented rain threat. Later in 2023, India hosted Sri Lanka and New Zealand at home and beat them comprehensively by 2-1.
