The Indian team started their World Cup 2023 campaign with a win against the Australian team. Rohit Sharma and the company would be looking to continue the winning momentum throughout the tournament.

The win in the opening game of India did not come easy as there was a collapse and the surface wasn't quite batting-friendly. The three batters among the top four got out on a duck, which was the first time this has happened with the Indian team in the history of ODI Cricket.

The Indian bowling department did an exceptional job and bowled out the Australians for just 199. Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets, while the left-arm bowler Ravindra Jadeja took three including the wickets of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey. The Australian team knew that India would have to play their best to chase the target.

Here's how the Indian top order created history and an unwanted record:

When the Indian team came to bat, the Australian bowlers were on top of their games as Mitchell Starc bowled beautifully and picked up the wicket of Ishan Kishan in the first over itself. Then Josh Hazlewood who was bowling the second over, took the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer.

All three of the batters were dismissed on duck which has happened for the first time for the Indian team. But eventually, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul took their time and made a match-winning partnership of 165 runs and snatched the victory from the mouth of the Aussies.

Virat Kohli scored 85 and got out in the 38th over but he did his job and KL Rahul who scored 97 not out finished off the game in style with a classic six over covers. India will now head to Delhi for their next game against Afghanistan on the 11th of October.
