Brief Score: Australia - 199/10 [Steven Smith - 46 (71), David Warner - 41(52), vs India [Ravindra Jadeja - 3/28 (10), Jasprit Bumrah - 2/35 (10)].

India started their World Cup 2023 campaign on a positive note against the Australian side in Chennai. The team selection from Rohit Sharma was spot on as the Indian spinners pounced on the Aussie batters, and bundled them for a paltry 199.

Jadeja's triple damage dents Aussie hopes

Having lost Mitchell Marsh for a duck, Australia were pushed on the back-foot early in the innings. However, the reliable Steve Smith and David Warner started the repair work. Slow, yet steady, but the Men in Yellow were marching towards a solid position before Jadeja's triple strike halted their progress.

He bowled the early ball of the tournament to Smith, which even had the Aussie batter feeling 'shocked.' The ball turned from the middle stump and beat the outside-edge to knock over Smith's stumps.

One brought the downfall of another as Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey departed in quick successions. The quick wickets pushed Australia's momentum as the Indian team bounced back in style.

Kuldeep, the other chief destroyer

With Jadeja picking up wickets from one end, it was the Wicket of Warner that changed the complexion of the game. Kuldeep got an easy caught and bowled chance, and came back in his second spell to grab the all-important wicket of the dangerous Glenn Maxwell for 15.

With 7 wickets down for 140, Australia's tail, comprising of Mitch Starc and Pat Cummins gave a couple of lusty blows, but that wasn't enough as the Aussies were restricted to a below-par total.
