Desert Vipers outclasses Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at the Dubai International Stadium in match number nine of the ILT20 2025 season. The outcome ensured that the Vipers continue to remain unbeaten this competition.

Desert Vipers lost in-form opener Fakhar Zaman to a sharp caught-and-bowled from Jason Holder for just 11 in the fifth over of the match. His partner Alex Hales charged over the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders bowlers with three raging boundaries and four scorching sixes throughout the first half of the innings. The dynamic Englishman punched out 58 from just 36 balls and shared 71 runs with Dan Lawrence to take the Vipers past the 100-run mark.

Dan Lawrence also scored a cracking 49 from 32 balls with a boundary and three sixes before finding Laurie Evans at deep midwicket off Jason Holder (2-24) in the 16th over. Alex Hales made his way back to the dugout courtesy of a wide yorker from David Willey, while captain Sam Curran chipped in with a swift 35 getting toppled by Kyle Mayers in the final over of the innings.

Azam Khan at number five provided the finishing touches to the innings by smearing 21 unbeaten runs from just nine balls as the Desert Vipers bolted towards 193-5 from 20 overs.

Mohammad Amir struck early for the Desert Vipers by getting rid of Knight Riders opener Phil Salt for just two. Salt’s opening partner Kyle Mayers also had his sluggish 20-ball stay of 21 runs halted by Dan Lawrence. Amidst tumbling wickets from the other hand, wicketkeeper-batter Joe Clarke composed an attacking 55 off just 32 balls to keep the chase alive from his end.

However, Clarke’s run out and Charith Asalanka’s early dismissal to Nathan Sowter ensured the Knight Riders slipped to 83-4, and eventually to 91-6 with the quick wickets of Sunil Narine and Laurie Evans.

Nathan Sowter picked up his third wicket of the evening in the form of danger man Andre Russell for just six to claim figures of 3-44 from his four overs. Wanindu Hasaranga got rid of Sunil Narine and David Willey to finish with 2-22, while Dhruv Parashar got the final wicket of Alishan Sharafu.

For the Knight Riders, Jason Holder clobbered 27 from just nine balls but his sparkling cameo merely managed to keep the losing deficit down to 53 runs.
