In a last-ball thriller, Gulf Giants beat MI Emirates by 2 wickets. Emirates put up 151 runs on the board batting first. In the chase, the Giants fumbled despite a 50-run partnership between Tom Alsop and Gerhard Erasmus. Aayan Khan and Muhammad Zuhaib slammed finishing boundaries in the final over to guide the Giants to a convincing 2-wicket win.

Here's how the MI Emirates vs Gulf Giants panned out in Abu Dhabi:

Emirates vs Giants Highlights: Tom Banton anchors Emirates’ inning with tough fifty

The MI Emirates batted first but lost Kusal Perera early in the powerplay. He went for a big shot but the ball only hit the bottom end and went straight to James Vince at mid-on. Muhammad Waseem’s promising start also lasted just 12 runs as Daniel Worrall claimed both the openers.

However, the Emirates were rescued by Tom Banton. The man in form slammed a gritty 55 off 39 balls, including 8 boundaries and a solo six. His heroics ended on a distasteful note as he got run out. Kieron Pollard called for a single after tucking the ball. While Banton hesitated, he went for the run but Jordan Cox collected the ball and hit straight at stumps.

Emirates vs Giants Highlights: Pollard powers Emirates to a decent total

After Tom Banton got run out, Kieron Pollard slammed a quick 34 off 25 balls, including 2 boundaries and 3 sixes. Akeal Hosein also hit 20 off 11 balls to power MI Emirates to a decent total of 151 runs at the loss of six wickets. While Gulf Giants used seven bowlers, only Worrall managed to scalp two wickets.

Emirates vs Giants Highlights: Fazal Farooqi continues his sublime form

The Gulf Giants lost captain James Vince early in the powerplay. Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled a yorker that swept past Vince’s defence to shatter his stumps, resulting in his first blood for Farooqi on the very first ball of the evening. Jordan Cox was also dismissed on 9 off 6 balls as Alzarri Joseph induced a thick edge off Cox that flew straight to wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran. However, Tom Alsop and Gerhard Erasmus stitched a 50-odd runs partnership to stabilise the chase.

Emirates vs Giants Highlights: Aayan Khan finishes off in style in lead Giants to victory

Tom Alsop (32) and Gerhard Erasmus (37) set up the chase perfectly for the Giants. However, the game was stretched to the final over, with the Giants still needing 11 runs. Aayan Khan smashed a six off the first which was also a no-ball, resulting in 7 free runs.

However, Tom Curran bowled on the penultimate delivery, with the game hung in balance as the Giants still needed to score 1 run off the final ball. Muhammad Zuhaib turned hero for his side as he hit a boundary to guide Gulf Giants to a thrilling 2-wicket win.
