Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 233/10 in 47.5 overs- Sahan Arachchige 57 (71), Kusal Mendis 57 (71); Logan Van Beek 2/40 (10), Vikramjit Singh 2/12 (2) BEAT Netherlands 105/10 in 23.3 overs- Max O’Dowd 33 (63), Logan van Beek 20* (24); Maheesh Theekshana 4/31 (6.3), Dilshan Madushanka 3/18 (7) BY 128 runs

Brilliant spells from pacer Dilshan Madushanka (3/18) and mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana (4/31) has helped Sri Lanka defend 233 against the Netherlands and clinch the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2023 trophy in Harare on Sunday evening.

Chasing a poultry total of 234, the Netherlands never looked like getting anywhere close to their target as the Lankans kept striking at regular intervals.

Madushanka got the island nation their first breakthrough after he dismissed opener Vikramjit Singh (13 off 14) in the 5th over.

He backed it up by knocking over Wesley Barresi for a six-ball duck, before the spin duo of Theekshana and Wanindu Hasargana took over.

Hasaranga got rid of in-form batsman Teja Nidamanuru for a 2-ball duck to leave the Dutch tottering at 32/3.

While Max O'Dowd (33 off 63) held one end up, the procession at the other end just never ended as Hasaranga, Madushanka and then Theekshana kept chipping away.

O'Dowd's resistance was finally ended by Theekshana, who then proceeded to mop up the tail and dismiss the Men in Orange for 105, leaving Logan van Beek (20* off 24) stranded at the other end.

Earlier, the Netherlands' bowling attack once again displayed their skills to the hilt as they knocked over Sri Lanka for 233/10 in 47.5 overs.

Vikramjit Singh knocked over both Lankan openers before Saqib Zulfiqar got into the act by breaking the 72-run-stand between Kusal Mendis (43 off 52) and Sahan Arachchige, who scored a fine 71-ball 57.

This proceeded to trigger a collapse that saw Sri Lanka go from 180/3 to 233 all-out, with Logan van Beek and Ryan Klein chipping in with 2 wickets apiece.

It didn't matter in the end as Madushanka and Theekshana proved too good for the Dutch.
