England's coach, Brendon McCullum, had a change of heart regarding sharing a beer with the Australian squad. Initially, he had expressed reluctance after the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow during the Lord's Test.

The incident involved Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey dismissing Bairstow in a manner that caused controversy and elicited boos from the crowd. Bairstow had left his crease, thinking the ball was dead, but Carey underarm threw it at the stumps, leading to his dismissal.

In response to this incident, McCullum had stated that he couldn't envision having a drink with the Australian team. However, recently, he softened his stance and expressed his willingness to share a beer with them. The change in McCullum's approach might indicate a desire for sportsmanship and reconciliation despite the on-field controversies

"I can't imagine we'll be having a beer with them any time soon. You've got to live with the decisions you make," said McCullum.

McCullum, clarified that his previous comments had been misunderstood. According to Reuters, McCullum stated that his words were misinterpreted earlier.

"Yeah, we'll have a beer. If we look back to after that test match I don't necessarily think what I said was construed in the right way. What I was saying was I've made mistakes in the past, and there's times when you look back on some decisions with regret and I put my hand up to say that. I guess that's what I was challenging. That's the grey area around the spirit of cricket," he further added.

McCullum stressed that the incident would not affect his rapport with the Australian team, especially their captain Pat Cummins. Having coached Cummins in the Indian Premier League (IPL), McCullum spoke warmly about him, describing him as an outstanding player and a dear friend.
