The fitness assessment of Jasprit Bumrah has been the most curious case of Indian cricket. The premier seamer has been out of professional cricket for ages, and there is still no update on his fitness.

Bumrah, who is currently in the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has been pushed to get back to the international fold a couple of times by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI); however, his comeback has been postponed for some reason or the other.

The experienced pacer's name was recently missing when the squad for the remaining two Test matches and the ODI series against Australia was announced. However, it is understood that he will make his comeback in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023).

However, Bumrah still has to get a green ticket from the VVS Laxman-headed NCA.

The Mumbai Indians pacer will have to play a massive role if India want to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Former Indian Test cricketer Aakash Chopra has shared his opinion about Bumrah's fitness.

While talking to Sportskeeda, Chopra said representing India is far more important than playing for his franchise, Mumbai Indians, in the IPL. He further said things wouldn't change much for MI if Bumrah didn't play all the games alongside Jofra Archer.

The cricketer-turned-commentator also stated that the Indian board should step in if the franchise pressurises the pacer IPL games with partial fitness.

With the franchise league still a month away, the former KKR batter has asked Bumrah first to test his fitness in Irani Trophy and Country Championship matches before heading into the IPL.

If various media reports are believed to be accurate, then the veteran Indian bowler will be playing directly in the IPL, and he is working heavily on his fitness.
