'He Has Done It Before...,' Sanju Samson Justifies Ashwin Over Holder

It was a tense finish for Rajasthan Royals (RR) as they lost out to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final over by a margin of just seven runs courtesy of Harshal Patel who bowled well. From Rajasthan's side Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel scored runs with the bat taking on the opposition at a quick rate.

However, things got real serious when in the eighteenth over, Ravichandran Ashwin was sent over Jason Holder to bat on with some big hits required at that stage. Although, Ashwin scored 12 from 6 deliveries but couldn't take his side to victory as he perished in the final over.

Post-match, Royals' skipper Sanju Samson justified his team's decision of sending Ashwin ahead of Holder as the latter can tonk a few out of the park. Samson called the off-spinner an experienced campaigner and said he has won them games in the past.

Further, he mentioned that they could have crossed the line on some other day but things like these happen.

"Ahh... I think when we play in this ground anything around 12-13 runs in the final over is gettable. It's all about momentum and usually, Hettie (Hetmyer) does it for us. Today, Jurel was brilliant and scored well. But it was a matter of a shot here and there. The selection of the number three batter depends on which team we are playing against, who is bowling and what is the situation. Whether we are chasing or setting a target.

"Yeah, I think with his experience Ashwin is definitely a batter to come at a pressure situation. He has done it before. He was there in a couple of matches and did well to provide some boundaries. So, he was the man at that moment."

After this game, Rajasthan's next encounter will be against Chennai Super Kings to be played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
