Sanju Samson belted 60 from just 32 balls to propel Rajasthan Royals to a sensational win against Gujarat Titans. In pursuit of Titans’ 177 in match number 23, the Royals slumped to 26-2 in their first six overs, thus marking the worst powerplay start of the season.

A while later, Samson alongside West Indies star Shimron Hetmyer launched counter-attacking assault with sparkling half-centuries. After the game, Hetmyer earned special praise from his skipper, courtesy of the 26-ball 56* he clubbed in the death overs.

Sanju Samson says he likes putting Hetmyer in tough situations

Shimron Hetmyer clubbed five sixes in the run-chase, including the winning hit in the final over of the game. He formed a 59-run stand with Sanju Samson from just 27 deliveries, and remained unbeaten to guide his side past the finishing line after his skipper’s dismissal.

After the match, skipper Samson praised his side for their effort in restricting the defending champions to just 177. He stated that he was happy to compete and win against a quality opponent like Titans on Ahmedabad surface.

“When you play quality opponents on a quality wicket, you get such games. Very happy to compete in such a game and come out on top. It was important to rotate our bowlers, they were playing some quality cricket and we had to respect that. The whole team came up well today and we could restrict them to around 170.”

He also praised Shimron Hetmyer, and stated that the team management likes putting him in tough situations because of his ability to win crunch games.

“He doesn't like easy situations, we like putting him in such situations because he usually wins us games from such situations.”
