Legendary Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell stole victory from the jaws of defeat through a game-changing half-century in the final T20I of the three-match series against South Africa. Coming at number six, Maxwell struck 62 runs off just 36 balls, ensuring a thrilling win for Australia in the all-important decider.

Maxwell Breaks Gayle's Record With Stunning Fifty

Chasing 173, Australia had a magnificent start to their innings, with Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh adding 66 runs for the first wicket. However, the hosts lost wickets in a cluster, leaving them reeling at 122 for six in 13.5 overs.

But Glenn Maxwell held his composure, slamming a glorious fifty and powering Australia to victory. He smashed eight boundaries and two sixes, showcasing his all-round stroke-play under pressure.

He eventually brought up his half-century, registering his 17th fifty-plus score in T20 Internationals. Thus, he went past Chris Gayle on the list, as the West Indies great has 16 scores of fifty or more in the shortest format.

Experienced Pakistan batter Babar Azam claims the top position with 39 50-plus scores in T20Is, while David Warner has the most number of fifty-plus scores for Australia (29).

Chris Gayle is the finest from the Caribbean in this regard, while Maxwell currently has the same number of fifty-plus scores as South Africa's Quinton de Kock, England's Dawid Malan and the Netherlands' Max O'Dowd.

While this was his 12th T20I fifty, Maxwell sits atop alongside Rohit Sharma as far as T20I hundreds are concerned. Both these players have five tons each in the shortest format, and Maxwell can surpass Rohit on the list if he slams another T20I hundred.

The veteran cricketer remained unbeaten and finished the game with an audacious reverse scoop off Lungi Ngidi. He was awarded Player of the Match for his stunning knock that helped Australia bag the series.
