The women's World Cup 2025 is up and running in style, and in the fourth match of the tournament, South Africa are going head-to-head against England. However, the first innings have turned out to be a nightmare for the Proteas women as they have been bowled out for just 69.
South Africa Women hit new low in World Cups
It is their third-ever lowest total in the Women's ODIs, while in the ODI World Cup, it is their second-worst batting performance. It is also the fewest overs (20.4 overs) South Africa have batted before getting bowled out in the Women's ODIs.
South Africa's lowest total in the Women's ODIs came during the 2009 World Cup in Australia when they were bowled out for just 51 against New Zealand. It is also their lowest-ever total in the Women's ODIs. Now, this 69 is their second-lowest total in World Cups, while the third lowest is 77 against England women in Cuttack during the 2013 edition of the marquee event.
Lowest Innings Totals for South Africa Women in ODI World Cups:
51/10 vs New Zealand, Bowral, 2009
69/10 vs England, Guwahati, 2025, Today*
77 vs England, Cuttack, 2013
They scored 80 two times against India in the Women's World Cup, first in Patna during the 1997 World Cup and then during the home World Cup in 2015. Thus, this is one of the worst performances of South Africa women in World Cups. They have been playing some good cricket in the recent past, and this batting performance is a big wake-up call for them early in the tournament.
England, on the other hand, would be pretty happy with their bowling performance as all their bowlers contributed in dismantling the Proteas. They would now be hoping to dominate with the bat and start off the tournament with a bang.
