In a fitting farewell to legendary fast bowler James Anderson, England toppled West Indies in the first Test match of the three-game series at Lords. The bowlers were right on the money to hand an inning and 114 runs defeat to the visitors.

Gus Atkinson, the debutant, won player of the match award for his maiden 10-wicket haul whereas the departing James Anderson capped four wickets in two innings as well.

West Indies were asked to bat first, but debutant Gus Atkinson was unstoppable. He removed Jason Holder, Joshua Da Silva, and Kavem Hodge in just a single over to bowl out West Indies at 121 on Day 1.

West Indies were completely outclassed just two days into the Test match. In reply to the 250-runs lead, Gus Atkinson continued this onslaught. After James Anderson and Ben Stokes got the opening pair, Atkinson charged over the middle order to grab another five-wicket-haul to finish with 12 wickets.

West Indies were bowled out for 136 runs and thus, England won by an inning and 114 runs. With that, the hosts are 1-0 in the three game Test series and the next game is scheduled at Trent Bridge, Nottingham from July 18.
