Deepti Sharma created history with the bat during India Women's first WODI match against England by scoring an unbeaten 62*, the highest score by an Indian woman batting at No. 6 or lower in a run chase. Her knock helped her side win the contest by 4 wickets.

In the first inning, England had set up a challenging total of 258 runs in 50 overs. Sophia Dunkley (83) and Davidson Richards (53) stitched a 100+ run partnership for the 5th wicket to pile up a strong total.

In the second inning, the Indian top order got a great start, but each of the top four batters failed to convert it into a big partnership, resulting in a loss of 4 wickets at 124 runs on the board.

With the chase getting trickier, veteran all-rounder Deepti Sharma displayed calm and built a 90-run partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues. Deepti scored an unbeaten 62 off 64 balls to power India to a thrilling 4-wicket win.

This is the highest score by an Indian woman batting at No. 6 or lower in a run chase in ODI format, according to . Before Deepti, only a few Indian batters had managed to score a half-century while batting at No. 6 or lower during a WODI chase.

Veda Krishnamurthy had scored 52* in a crucial World Cup match against the West Indies in 2016. Richa Ghosh followed with a gritty 52 against New Zealand in 2022.

Deepti’s knock is special not just because of the runs but also because of the timing and pressure of the situation. Chasing a target in an WODI is never easy, and doing so while batting lower down the order demands extra responsibility.

With that victory, India Women have gone 1-0 in the 3-game ODI series. Previously, the women in blue won the 5-game T20I series vs England by 3-2.
