New Zealand batting star Daryl Mitchell unleashed his own six-hitting spree in pursuit of India’s colossal total in the semi-final of the 2023 World Cup. Chasing 398 runs to win, the cricketer arrived to the crease within the eighth over of the innings following the early dismissals of openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra.

Notching up his fourth fifty-plus score of the tournament, Mitchell scaled a huge New Zealand record through the course of his run-chase masterclass at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Daryl Mitchell blazes past McCullum for huge record

Daryl Mitchell pumped out a series of extraordinary sixes against India in a bid to secure a spot in the World Cup 2023 finals for his side. Through the course of his knock, the cricketer went past former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum and his current teammate Rachin Ravindra for hitting the highest number of sixes in a single World Cup edition.

McCullum had previously bludgeoned 17 sixes during the 2015 World Cup, while Ravindra has also listed the same number of maximums so far in the ongoing 2023 cricketing carnival. Mitchell, on the other hand, has already belted 20 sixes in this edition, and is poised to add a few more to his name owing to his splendid run in the tournament.

Following Daryl Mitchell’s thunderous rebellion against India, here is a look at an updated list of New Zealand batsmen with most sixes in a single World Cup edition.
