CSK vs GT, IPL Final | What Happens if Reserve Day is Washed Out?

The final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between the Chennai Super Kings and the Gujarat Titans has been shifted to the reserve day (Monday), after the rain played the spoilsport on Sunday.

Rain god played a cat and mouse game with the fans as they eagerly waited for the final to start. It did stop for a while, but picked up the pace and the match officials had no choice but to push the final on the reserve day.

The official broadcaster did have a word with umpires Nitin Menon and Rod Tucker, who sounded optimistic for the game to start, but that never happened.

Here's what Nitin Menon said last night

"We were very surprised that the conditions looked good even after a few hours of rain. 12:06 AM IST is the latest time we can start. The groundsmen have given us a sign if we can run that if the rain stops."

What happens if the reserve day also gets washed out?

As per accuweather, there is a 50% chance of rain till 6 PM, however, the sky is clear from 7 PM onwards. There is a great chance that the game could be shortened, but the drainage system at the Narendra Modi Stadium is top-notch, so expect the match to start if everything goes according to the plan.

The rules remain the same for the reserve day as well. The cut-off time for a 40-over game is 9:45 PM IST. For a 5-over match, the cut-off time is 11:56 PM IST. If even that's not possible, then the Super Over time is 1:20 (Tuesday, May 30).

However, if the match is abandoned, GT will be crowned as the IPL champions, since they finished at the top of the table in league stage.
