Brendan Taylor is back for Zimbabwe and is now showing his class in the T20WC African Qualifier. He scored 39 off 27 balls in the first match against Uganda, while now in the second encounter against Botswana, he has smashed 123 off just 54 balls.
The cricketer walked out to bat at 3 after a loss of an early wicket, and started playing his shots right from his second ball. He unleashed a flurry of boundaries early in his innings and formed a lethal stand with Brian Bennett for the second wicket. They stitched together a stand of 112 off 51 balls and even after Bennett's wicket, Brendan Taylor kept going.
Brendon Taylor shows his class in the shortest format
Brendon Taylor got to his hundred in 46 balls during the 17th over and just after the century, smashed a six and a four. Thus, it looked like he would break the record of the highest individual T20I score by a Zimbabwe batter of Sikandar Raza, but unfortunately, he had to retire out at a score of 123. Sikandar Raza has the highest score of 133, which he scored against Gambia in 2024, and Taylor almost matched that heroic knock on Sunday.
Overall, Taylor faced 47 off his 54 balls off the pacer and was dominant against them scoring 102 runs at a strike-rate of 217.02. Against spinners, he hit 21 off seven balls, and overall, it was a knock to remember from one of Zimbabwe's finest batters. His knock has taken Zimbabwe to a massive score of 259.
Zimbabwe would now be hoping that his injury is not serious and he continues to do well in the upcoming matches as they try to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026. Zimbabwe missed out on the qualification for the 2024 T20 World Cup, and they last played in an ICC tournament in 2022.
