Dhaka Capitals captain and former Sri Lankan international Thisara Perera put up a remarkable all-round exhibition at Mirpur’s Sher-e Bangla National Stadium in match number eight of the BPL 2024-25 season. As it turned out, Perera’s efforts were still rendered in vain as the Khulna Tigers claimed a huge victory to register their successive win of the tournament.

Here’s the timeline of how Khulna Tigers vs Dhaka Capitals panned out at Mirpur:

Tigers vs Capitals Highlights: Middle-Order Collapse Squander Tigers’ Powerplay Blitz

Khulna Tigers openers Mohammad Naim and William Bosisto raced to a 49-run partnership in less than five overs after getting invited to bat first. Naim led the initial onslaught with 30 quick runs from just 17 balls, whacking seven boundaries in the process before he was holed out by Shahadat Hossain off Chaturanga de Silva.

Capitalizing on the newfound momentum, Dhaka Capitals bowlers scythed through Tigers midde-order with wickets at regular intervals. Afif Hossain, Ibrahim Zadran, captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mohammad Nawaz all fell in single digits, while Bosisto was toppled by Silva for a sluggish 26. After having reached 49-0 at one stage, the Khulna Tigers crashed to 93-6 by the time of reaching 12.4 overs.

Tigers vs Capitals Highlights: Ankon’s 32, Hider’s Fury Blazes Tigers To Big Total

Batting at number seven and eight, Mahidul Islam Ankon and Ziaur Rahman rescued Khulna Tigers’ faltering innings with a counterattacking 43-run partnership for the seventh wicket from just 29 balls. Ankon launched a boundary and two sixes during his top-scoring act of 22-ball 32 before finding Tanzid Hasan off Abu Jayed.

Rahman crafted 22 runs off 15 balls, while Abu Hider at number nine clobbered 21* from just eight deliveries to blaze Khulna Tigers to a competitive 173-8 by the competition of their 20 overs.

For the Capitals, Abu Jayed, senior paceman Mustafizur Rahman, Nazmul Islam, Shubham Ranjane, Alauddin Babu and captain Thisara Perera all picked up a wicket each, while left-arm spinner Chaturanga de Silva snared the prized-scalps of both Tigers openers to claim 2-22.

Tigers vs Capitals Highlights: Mehidy Hasan Miraz Jolts Capitals’ Top-Order With Abu Hider

Khulna Tigers captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz disrupted Dhaka Capitals’ run-chase ambitions right from the outset with the early wickets of Litton Das and Stephen Eskinazi in the first couple of deliveries of his spell. Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder also trapped Shubham Ranjane plumb in front later in the innings to claim sensational figures of 3-6 from his four overs.

Abu Hider got rid of Tanzid Hasan and Shahadat Hossain in successive overs, while Ziaur Rahman had Alauddin Bab caught behind by Mahidul Islam Ankon. At the end of Miraz, Hider and Rahman’s initial wicket-taking burst, the Capitals had its pursuit completely squashed away at 41-6 around the halfway stage of the innings.

Tigers vs Capitals Highlights: Thisara Perera Delays Inevitable With Ton In A Losing Cause

Dhaka Capitals captain Thisara Perera batted out the remaining 11 overs of the innings to share 102 runs with fellow unbeaten and Sri Lankan international Chaturanga de Silva for the seventh wicket. While Chaturanga contributed with just 11* from 20 balls during their herculean partnership, Perera clobbered nine boundaries and seven sixes to mount 103* off just 60 deliveries.

Nonetheless, Perera’s fighting ton merely kept Dhaka Capitals’ defeat margin down to 20 runs as they reached 153-6 from 20 overs.
