Defending champions Fortune Barishal stunned Durbar Rajshahi in the opening match of the BPL 2024-25 season at the Sher-e Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Chasing 198 for a win, a down-and-out Barishal unit overhauled their target courtesy of a backend onslaught from Mahmudullah and Faheem Ashraf.

Here’s the timeline of how Fortune Barishal vs Durbar Rajshahi panned out at Mirpur:

Barishal vs Rajshahi Highlights: Kyle Mayers Removes Both Rajshahi Openers

Fortune Barishal seamer Kyle Mayers got rid of both Durbar Rajshahi openers, Mohammad Haris and Jishan Alam, within the first two overs of his new ball spell. The West Indies all-rounder cleaned up Alam for a two-ball duck, and caught-and-bowled Haris for just 13 as the Rajshahi slipped to 25-2 in 3.1 overs.

Myers’ double-strike with the new ball ensured the Rajshahi reached just 40-2 by the end of the opening powerplay.

Barishal vs Rajshahi Highlights: Anamul Haque, Yasir Ali Fifties Mount Big Rajshahi Total

Durbar Rajshahi captain Anamul Haque led his team’s counterattacking recovery through a herculean 140-run third-wicket stand with number four batter Yasir Ali. The two cricketers mounted majestic half-centuries, with the skipper himself unleashed four boundaries and five sixes in his 51-ball 65. In a bid to enhance the scoring rate in the slog overs, Haque nicked one towards Barishal stumper Mushfiqur Rahim off Pakistan-based Faheem Ashraf at 165-3.

Yasir Ali at the other end raged on and reached 94* from just 47 balls with seven boundaries and eight sweltering sixes. Ali’s 47-ball blinder blazed Durbar Rajshahi to an authoritative 197-3 from 20 overs upfront.

Barishal vs Rajshahi Highlights: Taskin Ahmed, Murad Keep Barishal On The Mat At 61-5

In an experimental move, Durbar Rajshahi captain Anamul Haque employed batting all-rounder Jishan Alam with the new ball upfront. The off-spinner made instant impact by trapping Bangladesh captain and Fortune Barishal opener Najmul Hossain Shanto for a first-ball duck.

With the ball still fresh and new, Taskin Ahmed further jolted Barishal’s top-order with the key wickets of Tamim Iqbal and Kyle Mayers in quick succession. Hasan Murad got rid of Mushfiqur Rahim and a well-set Towhid Hridoy in the space of two overs as the defending champions crashed to 61-5 around the halfway stage of the innings.
