Sydney Sixers secured a 34-run victory over Melbourne Renegades in Match 18 of the Big Bash League 2022 on Wednesday at Sydney.

Sixers post a competitive total

Invited to bat first, Sixers had a stable 32-run opening stand, before Kurtis Patterson made his way back for 17. Then, James Vince arrived at three and provided momentum to the team along with the in-form Josh Philipe.

Will Sutherland dismissed Philipe (55) and put an end to the blossoming partnership, which had already added 59 runs. The wickets of Philipe caused a downturn in the Sixers' innings as they lost Vince (26) and Moises Henriques (1) early.

In the end, Silk contributed 19 as Sixers posted 149 on the board. Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked three wickets, followed by Kane Richardson and Sutherland with two each.

Bowlers help Sixers prevail

It was a terrific start with the ball for Sixers, as they got rid of Martin Guptill (0) and Nic Maddinson (1) in the power-play overs. At 8/2 in 3.4 overs, Renegades needed a quick partnership to get things back on track.

The experienced pair of Aaron Finch (36) and Shaun Marsh (28) contributed well, but could not be potent enough with their strike rates. In the final few overs, Rogers (14) and Sutherland (13) lessened the losing deficit to 34, as they were all-out for 115.

Playing his 100th T20 match, Ben Dwarshuis finished with figures of 4/17 in four overs, and was named Player of the Match.
