Pakistan ended Day 1 over New Zealand at a comfortable position in the first Test fixture on Monday at Karachi. 

Kiwis put Pakistan in a spot of bother

Opting to bat first, the hosts could not get off to a good start. The in-form Abdullah Shafique (7) and Shan Masood (3) fell early. Imam-ul-Haq (24) was sublime with his timing to put the team on the right path, but, failed to convert it into big innings. 

The southpaw Saud Shakeel put up a strong resistance against Kiwi bowlers, but was dismissed on 22. At 110/4, Pakistan needed a quality partnership to make a comeback in the game. 


Babar, Sarfaraz dominate New Zealand 

Playing his first Test in Pakistan, Sarfaraz displayed composure to build a solid stand with captain Babar Azam. Both the batters were confident to resurrect team's innings and provide the stability. 


Sarfaraz (86) missed out on a well-deserved century, which getting holed out to Daryl Mitchell at the slips. At the end of the Day 1, Pakistan are at 317/5, with Babar (161*) and Agha Salman (3*) at the crease. Michael Bracewell and Ajaz Patel have accounted for two wickets each for the visitors.
