Bangladesh kept Afghanistan down in a high-stakes Group B match of the 2025 Asia Cup. Demonstrating an excellent all-round performance, opening batter Tanzid Hasan punched out a scintillating half-century while bowlers Nasum Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman decimated Afghanistan’s line-up.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the ninth match of the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 between Bangladesh and Afghanistan, as it panned out at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, September 16.

Tanzid Hasan Fuels BAN Up To 154 Despite Rashid, Noor Ahmad Spells

Bangladesh openers Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan raced to a 59-run powerplay start after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Saif himself charted 30 off those runs from 28 balls before getting castled by Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan. Tanzid top-scored in the innings with a sublime 31-ball 52 to soar Bangladesh past the 100-run mark.

Noor Ahmad struck back for Afghanistan with two quick wickets, including that of Tanzid Hasan and captain Litton Das at number three for just nine to claim figures of 2-23 from his four overs. Rashid Khan trapped Shamim Hossain in front for a run-a-ball 11 to bag 2-26, and fast bowler Azmatullah Omarzai got rid of dangerman Towhid Hridoy after the latter had cracked a speedy 26 in the slog overs. Bangladesh ended up hauling a competitive 154-5 in their innings.

Nasum Ahmed, Rahman Blow Away Afghanistan

Bangladesh spinner Nasum Ahmed made instant impact with the early wickets of Afghanistan’s top-order batters Sediqullah Atal and Ibrahim Zadran in his first couple of overs. Fellow spinner Rishad Hossain also got the ball turning, claiming the wickets of well-set Gulbadin Naib and Rahmanullah Gurbaz for 16 and 35 respectively as Afghanistan slipped to 62-4 around the halfway stage of the innings.

Senior fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman ran through Afghanistan’s lower-half with three quick wickets to claim figures of 3-28 from his four overs. Taskin Ahmed delivered the knockout blow to pick up his second of the game to fold up Afghanistan for 146 as Bangladesh claimed an eight-run win.
