New Zealand registered a historic ODI series win in Bangladesh, their first since 2010, by trouncing hosts in the third ODI in Mirpur. Opener Will Young and number four Henry Nicholls played starring roles with the bat in a clinical run-chase after pacer Adam Milne had restricted Bangladesh to a moderate total.

Najmul Shanto plays a captains knock in BAN’s 171

Bangladesh, trailing 0-1, decided to put up runs upfront in the series-deciding third ODI in Mirpur. New Zealand’s new-ball duo of Trent Boult and Adam Milne were up to the task as both accounted for an opener each within their opening spells.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto at number three ensured runs kept flowing from his end of the crease, however, he received little-to-no assistance from the rest of the batting line-up. Shanto notched up his fourth ODI half-century before he was done-in by New Zealand off-spinner Cole McConchie at 76.

Notably, Mahmudullah’s mere 21 emerged as the next-best effort from the innings as hosts folded up for just 171 in 34.3 overs. Milne, who removed opener Zakir Hasan, claimed three more wickets on the afternoon to finish with 4-34. Boult and McConchie both snared twice each while Rachin Ravindra and interim Kiwi skipper Lockie Ferguson took home a wicket.

Young and Nicholls make crafty half-centuries in easy win

New Zealand openers Finn Allen and Will Young started aggressively in their run-chase through their 49-run stand at the top. Dean Foxcroft at number three was cleaned up by Shoriful Islam for a first-ball duck, thus gifting the speedster the second of his successive wickets in the 10th over of the innings.

Young and number four Henry Nicholls did the clean-up job by charting their respective half-centuries. The two batters also took the visitors near the finishing line until Young lost his off-stump to Nasum Ahmed. Wicketkeeper Tom Blundell entertained with his unbeaten 23-run cameo to script a seven-wicket match win and a 2-0 series win for New Zealand.
