Pakistan won the first ODI against the West Indies in their series opener, chasing 281 runs with ease. However, this was not just a case of a flat West Indies collapse. The Caribbean side fought back with intensity, taking crucial wickets that, at times, made it feel like Pakistan were under the pump.

One such moment came with Babar Azam’s dismissal during the chase, which left the batter fuming after being deceived by Gudakesh Motie’s spin magic.

Babar Boils In Anger After Wicket

The turning point of Pakistan’s chase came in the 24th over when Gudakesh Motie produced a moment of brilliance to dismiss Babar Azam, leaving the former captain fuming at his own misjudgment.

Babar had walked in after the early loss of Saim Ayub and had steadily rebuilt the innings alongside Abdullah Shafique. Once Shafique fell, he partnered with Mohammad Rizwan, and the duo seemed to be steering Pakistan towards a comfortable victory.

The Deception That Did the Damage

Motie, the crafty spinner, had been bowling a tight line, but Babar had handled him with relative ease. However, the 23.3rd over brought the game-changing moment. Motie floated one slightly wide outside off, luring Babar forward.

The ball was not a full toss, nor was it too short, just the perfect length to tempt a charging batter. Babar Azam, expecting the ball to turn in, committed early, stepping down the track to negate the spin. But Motie held the line, and the ball turned away just a fraction, enough to beat the outside edge. Watch the clip here.

Babar, caught in no man’s land, lost his balance as the ball zipped past his bat. Shai Hope, sharp as ever behind the stumps, whipped off the bails in a flash. Babar, in anger, then punched the air, visibly upset at throwing away his wicket at a crucial juncture. The dismissal not only ended a well-set innings but also gave West Indies a much-needed opening.

However, Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Talat were worthy enough to take up the challenge as their 104-run stand for the 7th wicket made sure the Men in Green won the game with seven balls to spare.
