Australia chased down their highest-ever total in the history of the ODI World Cup on Saturday, November 11, at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune against Bangladesh. It was their last group stage match in the marquee tournament before the semifinals start.

Australia's highest successful WC chase

Australia successfully chased down a target of 307, propelled by Mitchell Marsh's impressive knock of 177 runs in just 44.4 overs. Half-centuries from Steve Smith and David Warner further bolstered their victory. While Smith smacked 63 runs, Warner scored 61-ball 43.

Australia's second-highest run chase came against Afghanistan in the ongoing World Cup, where they successfully chased down 292 runs. Notably, their third and fourth highest run chases occurred in 1996 and 1999 against New Zealand and South Africa, respectively.

Australia's journey in the 2023 World Cup began with only two defeats, but they rebounded strongly by winning seven consecutive matches. Securing a berth in the semi-finals, they concluded the group stage in the third position on the points table.

The Men in Yellow are set to square off against South Africa in the second semi-final of the tournament on November 16 at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It's worth mentioning that South Africa secured the second position on the points table with six victories out of nine matches.
