Brief Scores: Pakistan: 48-1 (5 overs) [Mirza Baig: 32* (18), Khushdil Shah: 14 (10); Rakibul Hasan 1/12 (2)] lost to Bangladesh: 65-4 (5 overs) [Yasir Ali: 34 (16), Afif Hossain: 20 (11); Arshad Iqbal 3/14 (2), Sufiyan Muqeem 2/32 (2)] by six wickets (DLS Method).

Bangladesh clinched bronze in a five-over shootout against Pakistan in Hangzhou. The match boiled down to the last ball after constant rain interruptions had reduced the third-placed standoff to a five-overs-a-side affair.

Rakibul Hasan restrict Pakistan to 48

Pakistan opener Mirza Baig launched proceedings with a six off the first ball and ended up top-scoring in the innings with an unbeaten 32 from 18 balls. Bangladesh new-ball speedster Ripon Mondol was taken to cleaners by the two openers, before his partner Rakibul Hasan tightened things up in his two-over spell.

Hasan dismissed senior Pakistan batsman Khusdil Shah, all while conceding just four runs from the final over to restrict the ‘Men in Green’ to 48-1 in their five-over innings upfront.

Bangladesh recovers to claim Bronze in final-ball thriller

Bangladesh, chasing a revised target of 65 off their five overs (DLS), received two early jolts within the first three balls of their innings. Pakistan’s rising star Arshad Iqbal removed opener Zakir Hasan and captain Saif Hassan at number three both for ducks in successive deliveries.

Afif Hossain and Yasir Ali at number four staged Bangladesh’s recovery with enterprising stroke-play over the course of the next three overs, with the latter of the two bludgeoning a 16-ball 34.

Requiring 20 runs from the final six balls, Ali went full berserk against Sufiyan Muqeem while bowling star Rakibul Hasan slapped a boundary off the last delivery to clinch Bronze for Bangladesh.
