Arshdeep Singh went wicketless in the second T20I of the ongoing series between India and South Africa. He was eager to take some wickets in the third match in Dharamsala and did that by drawing the first blood with the wicket of Reeza Hendricks in the very first over.

In the process, he also went past Sri Lankan great and one of the greatest T20I bowlers of all time, Lasith Malinga, on the wicket-takers’ list. This was Arshdeep’s 108th wicket in T20Is in 71 games, while Malinga had 107 wickets in 84 matches.

Arshdeep set up Hendricks with fuller deliveries that moved away from him and then bowled a fuller delivery that nipped back in to trap him LBW. The on-field umpire initially ruled him not out, but India successfully reviewed, and the replays showed the ball clipping the leg stump.

This was not all, as the 26-year-old returned to take yet another wicket in the death overs. He dismissed Aiden Markram, who was the highest scorer in this match, with an outward-moving delivery this time. He bowled a fuller delivery and Markram, trying to hit over covers, edged it straight into Jitesh Sharma’s gloves.

India restrict South Africa to a reasonable score

Thanks to his efforts and the brilliance of other Indian bowlers as well, South Africa were restricted to just 117 runs in the first innings. Arshdeep, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each, while Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube took one wicket apiece. For the Proteas, only Markram made little impact with his 46-ball 61.

A good performance was a must for the Men in Blue after losing the second game in Mullanpur. Arsdeep and the other bowlers were on top of their game to help India secure a win to take a lead in the five-match series.
