India U19 put up an all-round performance to register a 90-run victory over Pakistan U19 in the 5th match of the U19 Asia Cup. The men in blue bundled the neighbours out for 150 while defending a total of 240.
The match followed a clear pattern from start to finish, with India staying in control for most of the contest.
Aaron George’s 85 guided India to a 240-run total
After winning the toss, India U19 batted first but did not get off to a flying start. Captain Ayush Mhatre set the tone early with an aggressive 38 off 25 balls, striking four boundaries and three sixes.
His intent helped India move quickly in the first ten overs, but wickets kept falling at the other end. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the man in form, fell early, and Mhatre’s dismissal at 78 for 2 slowed the momentum.
The innings found stability through Aaron George, who played the most important knock of the match. Batting with considerable restraint and control, George scored 85 off 88 balls, anchoring the innings as partners came and went.
India slipped to 113/4 at one stage, but George held firm while rebuilding through small but useful stands.
The momentum shifted again in the middle overs when Kanishk Chouhan joined George. Chouhan played a positive innings of 46 off 46 balls, hitting timely boundaries and three sixes.
Their partnership pushed India past 200 and gave the innings late energy. India were eventually bowled out for 240 in 46.1 overs, a competitive total on a surface offering something to the bowlers.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Sayyam and Abdul Subhan picked up three wickets each.
Huzaifa Ahsan’s valiant knock in vain as India crush Pakistan
Pakistan’s chase never really settled. They lost wickets early, with India’s bowlers keeping things tight and disciplined. Deepesh Devendran dismissed 3 out of the top 4 batters on single-digit scores.
At 30/4, the chase was already slipping away. Captain Farhan Yousaf attempted to rebuild, but fell for 23, putting further Pakistani trouble.
Only resistance came from Huzaifa Ahsan, who scored a fighting 70 off 83 deliveries. He hit nine fours and two sixes and tried to keep Pakistan alive but lacked support from the other end.
India responded with smart bowling changes, not allowing Huzaifa to dominate for long stretches. The turning point came when Kanishk Chouhan removed Huzaifa, ending any hopes of a late comeback.
Chouhan finished with 3 for 33, whereas Deepesh Devendran was impressive with 3 for 16, applying pressure through the middle overs.
Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 150 in 41.2 overs, sealing a comprehensive 90-run win for India U19.
With that win, India are now at the top of the Group A table, while Pakistan slipped to second position.
