Former England captain Michael Vaughan had a lucky escape amid the mass deadly shooting that took place at the Bondi beach in Sydney on Sunday, December 14. Narrating his ordeal, the cricketer-turned-commentator stated that he was “locked in a restaurant” in Bondi at the time of the terrorist attack, that left more than 10 people dead and multiple others injured.
The mass shooting has been described as one of the deadliest in Australia in many years.
Michael Vaughan narrates near-death experience in Bondi
Former England captain Michael Vaughan is currently in Australia as part of the commentary team in the ongoing 2025-26 Ashes series. On Sunday, December 14, at the time of a deadly terrorist attack at Bondi beach in Sydney, the cricketer-turned-commentator narrated his ordeal, claiming that he was “locked in a restaurant” in Bondi and is now home safe.
Michael Vaughan also thanked the emergency services in Australia and the civilian who confronted one of the two terrorists at the beach. Taking to X, he said:
“Being locked in a restaurant in Bondi was scary .. Now home safe .. but thanks so much to the emergency services and the guy who confronted the terrorist .. thoughts with all who have been affected.”
Bondi beach 2025 shooting
According to several Australian reports, at least two armed terrorists went on a shooting spree at the renowned Bondi beach in Sydney during the Hanukkah celebration. The Australian Jewish Association described the incident as an attack on the Jewish community in Australia.
Nonetheless, the deadly shootout resulted in over 10 casualties and multiple injuries. As per a video circulating on social media, one of the perpetrators was disarmed by a civilian.
With Michael Vaughan confirmed to be safe but visibly distressed over the dastardly attack, the ex-cricketer will now fly to Adelaide for the upcoming third Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series, set to be played between December 17 and December 21 at the Adelaide Oval.
