Jake Fraser-McGurk in MLC 2025 (Source:@RoshanSriram123,x.com)
Jake Fraser-McGurk has silenced his critics with a thunderous return to form in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025. Young Australian opener smashed 38-ball 88 studded with 11 sixes and just two fours to lead the San Francisco Unicorns to a 32-run win over the Los Angeles Knight Riders at the Oakland Coliseum on June 15.
This match-winning knock came after a prolonged lean patch for Fraser-McGurk, who endured a forgettable IPL 2025 season. Bought for a hefty INR 9 Crores by Delhi Capitals (DC), the explosive right-hander managed just 55 runs in six matches at an average of 9.17. He later opted not to return to India for the remainder of the IPL due to personal reasons. His poor form also led to his omission from Australia's T20I squad against West Indies.
It is also important to mention that JFM's comeback trail was not promising either, he just scored just six runs in his first outing for the Unicorns in MLC 2025. But in a dramatic turnaround on Sunday night, the 23-year-old rediscovered his touch and reminded everyone of his potential.
Fraser-McGurk Falls Short Of Century
Batting first after Sunil Narine won the toss and chose to field, San Francisco lost Tim Seifert early. However, Fraser-McGurk joined forces with Finn Allen, who had scored a century in the previous game, and the duo lit up the evening with fireworks.
Jake Fraser-McGurk's intent was clear in the fifth over when he launched four consecutive sixes off pacer Shadley van Schalkwyk. He continued to punish the bowlers and reached his half-century in just 21 balls.
Fraser-McGurk’s aggressive innings peaked in the 13th over when he launched three sixes off Matthew Tromp, looking set for a maiden T20 century. But his innings ended at 88 when van Schalkwyk returned to dismiss him in the 14th over.
Statement Performance After IPL Setback
JFM's blistering performance serves as a much-needed confidence booster after a difficult few months. Once one of the breakout stars of IPL 2024, his poor form in 2025 saw him lose his place in both franchise and national setups. However, with this commanding innings, he has reaffirmed his value as a power-hitter.
