On June 4, Cricket Australia announced the 16 players who will represent the country in the upcoming T20 series against the West Indies, happening this July in the Caribbean.

One big change is that Mitchell Owen, a player from Tasmania, has been picked for the first time in the Australian team. Owen impressed everyone with his great performance in the Big Bash League (BBL), where he even scored an important century in the final. He also played for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025. Because of his good form, he earned a spot in the national squad.

At the same time, some well-known players have been left out. Jake Fraser-McGurk, a young opening batsman who showed promise, and Marcus Stoinis, an experienced all-rounder, were both dropped from the squad.

Also, some of Australia’s big Test players like Travis Head, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc will skip this T20 series to rest after the Test matches in the West Indies.

Mitchell Marsh is back as captain for this T20 series. Last time, Josh Inglis was the captain when Australia played Pakistan at home. With Travis Head not playing and Jake Fraser-McGurk dropped, Mitch Owen might get a chance to open the batting in this series.

The team will play five T20 matches in Jamaica and St Kitts after the Test series finishes.
