The 32nd match of the Big Bash Premier League 2025-26 witnessed a remarkable record as the Perth Scorchers lit up the Adelaide Oval against the Adelaide Strikers. Under the four-over powerplay rule in the Big Bash League, the Scorchers registered the second-highest powerplay score in BBL history.
Openers Mitchell Marsh and Finn Allen for the Perth Scorchers led the charge, launching a fierce assault on the Strikers’ bowling attack. The brutal hitting helped the team set a BBL record that only seconds the highest ever score recorded.
Perth Scorchers thrash Strikers for BBL record
Perth Scorchers piled up 69 runs in the powerplay, which now stands as the second-highest in league history, behind the record 74/0 scored by the Hobart Hurricanes against the Sydney Thunder in January 2025.
Mitchell Marsh and Finn Allen set the tone early with their aggressive intent and strong partnership. The pair added 81 runs from just 30 balls, with Luke Wood, Jamie Overton, and Hasan Ali coming under heavy pressure.
While the opening over conceded 11 runs, Overton’s second over went for 18. The heaviest damage came in Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali’s over, which cost 23 runs, including a no-ball and a wide.
Notably, Hasan Ali’s BBL 2025-26 campaign was sub-par. He played 6 matches where he took only 7 wickets while having a costly economy rate of 8.57.
Finn Allen hitting accelerates Scorchers' innings
Finn Allen raced to 38 runs off just 16 balls, smashing four boundaries and three sixes, while Mitchell Marsh remained unbeaten, striking at a rate of over 180.
The relentless hitting took a toll on the Strikers as Allen was dismissed by Lloyd Pope in the fifth over.
Cooper Connolly followed soon after for a duck. At the end of 10 overs, Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh were at the crease, continuing to put the Adelaide Strikers’ bowlers under severe pressure.
