Among all the formats in the game of cricket, reaching 100 matches in this format is a milestone every aspiring cricketer dreams of. As it is a dream of many, West Indies’ legendary batter Kraigg Brathwaite is standing on the brink of that dream as he is set to play his 100th Test match against Australia.
Coming in the West Indies team as a young cricketer, to turn into an iconic batter who is moving towards his 100th Test match, Braithwaite turned his dream into reality. Standing on the brink of the iconic milestone, the Caribbean batter reflected on his emotions.
Brathwaite Shares Gratitude Ahead Of 100th Test
Back in 2011, an 18-year-old Kraigg Brathwaite stepped onto the Test arena, scoring just 15 runs on debut against Pakistan. Behind the modest score, the hidden wish was to play 100 Tests for the country. 14 years later, Brathwaite is set to turn his dream into reality as he will play his 100th Test match against Australia.
As he is standing close to one of the biggest milestones of his career, emotions are running high. As quoted by ICC, while reflecting on the milestone, he shared his gratitude for the journey so far.
“I set that goal when I was probably 14 years old — to play 100 Tests. Now I’m here, 18 years later, playing my hundredth Test for West Indies. I’m very thankful, and I just want to be an inspiration for younger guys to follow. I didn’t want to just be another player — I wanted to make an impact,” he said.
“I wanted to play for the West Indies from young — but I wasn’t sure I could do it on the big stage. As I played more, the belief came that I could get this job done,” he added.
Grenada Makes It More Special
As the West Indies is facing Australia in a three-match Test series, the second Test is set to take place in Grenada. Amid the intense competition, Kraigg Brathwaite eagerly looks forward to celebrating his iconic 100th Test match at this venue.
“Grenada is a special place for me, and I’m looking forward to playing my 100th Test match. I'm very happy and thankful to be here and honoured to be playing for West Indies,” Brathwaite said.
In 99 Test matches, Kraigg Brathwaite has scored 5943 runs with 12 centuries and 41 half-centuries. Adding to this, he also led the West Indies from March 2021 to 2025. Brathwaite will be aiming to script another special knock and make this milestone more special.
