When we talk about consistency in IPL, CSK's name pops up ahead of every other franchise. They have won the title five times and have played the final ten times. All this has happened under the captaincy of their all-time legend MS Dhoni. However, during the last edition of the tournament, Dhoni handed over the responsibilities to Gaikwad and stepped down from the role.

After taking up the captaincy role, Gaikwad tried to shift things around a bit. In order to accommodate Rachin Ravindra at the top of the order, Gaikwad demoted himself to number three. However, things did not work out as planned for the team and they failed to qualify for the playoffs. 

Following their unsuccessful campaign in IPL 2024, CSK went in with intent during the IPL 2025 auction. They have recruited players for specific role and it looks like a balanced side. In order to get their best playing combination on the field, Gaikwad can demote himself at number three. Here are three reasons why the CSK skipper should not open in IPL 2025 -

3. Middle Over Efficiency and Spin Tackling Ability

Ruturaj Gaikwad is an efficient player against spin. If he comes in at number three, Gaikwad can keep the scoreboard ticking for the team. Besides, he can shift gears very swiftly and that will help CSK keep their momentum throughout the batting innings. This will help players like Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja or Vijay Shankar in the middle-order to get themselves in without worrying about the scoring rate and then go after the bowling once they are set.

2. Experience In The Middle Order

Chennai Super Kings have always preferred an experienced batter at number three. While Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina have played these roles to great efficiency, Ajinkya Rahane was used in the role for last couple of seasons. However, CSK have released them ahead of IPL 2025 and there will be a vacuum at the top. If Gaikwad goes down at number three, CSK will get experience and have stability and solidity in the middle-order.

1. Rachin Ravindra's Dynamic Presence At the Top Of The Order

Rachin Ravindra is known for his aggressive intent. In the powerplay he can seize the momentum for his team with his blazing shots. This will provide dynamism at the top of the order. The fact that Devon Conway and Ravindra has played with each other for New Zealand, means that there will be no lack of communication between the two. These two players also complement with each other in batting style too and it could prove to be one of the greatest assets for the team in IPL 2025.
