The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season is well underway, and there's been no shortage of excitement. With 17 days gone, we have already witnessed plenty of thrilling action and drama on the field.

From players rising to the occasion and carrying their teams across the finish line to edge-of-the-seat contests that have kept fans glued to their screens, it's safe to say that IPL 2023 has delivered on its promise of thrilling cricket so far.

As is the case every year, the battle for the orange cap is also heating up this season. This year, however, the competition is fiercer than ever, with former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli making a strong comeback after a couple of underwhelming seasons.

The Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder has been in electrifying form, and his dazzling century against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, April 16, has catapulted him to the top of the tournament's run-scoring charts. He now has 234 runs to his name from just five matches, with an average of 46.80 and a strike rate of 170.80.


Shikhar Dhawan

Despite missing their most recent match against the Lucknow Super Giants due to injury, the captain of the Punjab Kings remains the second leading run-scorer in the tournament, having notched up 233 runs in just four matches at an average of 116.50 and a strike rate of 146.54.


Shubman Gill

Having played five matches in the tournament so far, the Gujarat Titans opener is yet to be dismissed for a score in the single digits, a remarkable feat that speaks to his consistency at the crease. He has amassed a total of 228 runs in the tournament, with an average of 45.60 and a strike rate of 140, putting him in the third spot on the list of highest run-scorers.


David Warner

David Warner, one of the Delhi Capitals’ top batters this season, has also been in good form, with 228 runs to his name after five matches. Currently ranked as the fourth highest run-scorer, he has maintained an average of 45.60 and a strike rate of 116.92 and is yet to be dismissed for a score in the single digits. He has a total of three half-centuries to his name this season so far.


Virat Kohli

The former captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli, has been in sublime touch since the start of the tournament. 

He began his campaign with a breathtaking unbeaten knock of 82 runs off just 49 balls against Mumbai Indians and has carried that form with him throughout.

With three half-centuries to his name, he currently sits in fifth place on the leaderboard of highest run-scorers, having garnered 214 runs in just four innings at an average of 71.33 and a strike rate of 147.59.


Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler, the English captain, has picked up right where he left off in the last season of the Indian Premier League. 

Currently ranked as the sixth highest run-scorer in the tournament, he has racked up a total of 204 runs in five innings at an average of 40.80 and a blistering strike rate of 163.20. 


Faf du Plessis

The captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore has led the team from the front, scoring runs with consummate ease. With a tally of 197 runs from four matches, he ranks as the seventh highest run-getter of the tournament, boasting an average of 65.67 and a strike rate of 168.38. 


Ruturaj Gaikwad

The young opener from Chennai Super Kings has been in a great touch in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League yet again, providing his team with solid starts in every match. 

He has already amassed 197 runs from four matches at an average of 65.67 and a strike rate of 155.12, and currently ranks as the eighth highest run-scorer of the tournament. 


Shimron Hetmyer

The hard-hitting West Indian batter has been in top form for Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing season. He has been playing the role of a finisher to perfection, nailing every opportunity that has come his way. 

With a whopping 183 runs from just five matches at an average of 183 and a strike rate of 184.85, he is currently the ninth highest run-getter in the tournament. 


Tilak Varma

The Mumbai southpaw has been in exceptional form, scoring 177 runs from four matches at an average of 59 and a strike rate of 150. His batting contributions have been invaluable to the Mumbai Indians, who will be hoping that he continues his rich vein of form going forward in the tournament.
