In the latest clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2023 on Tuesday, the former emerged victorious by a narrow margin of five runs, keeping their slim hopes of qualifying for the playoffs alive.

Choosing to bat first at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, the Capitals set a target of 131 runs, which their bowlers defended well as they restricted the Titans to 125/6.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, renowned Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra highlighted the significance of Delhi's win, considering the recent sequence of upsets that saw the top four teams losing their matches.

The former cricketer described the Delhi Capitals' team as being on the "ventilator" in the tournament, meaning that their chances of reaching the playoffs are very slim, but still, they are alive in the competition.

"If you see the last four matches, whichever team was there in the top four lost. Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants lost, and now Gujarat Titans have also lost. Delhi have got a win. They are alive but the team is still on the ventilator,” said Chopra.

On the other hand, Chopra recognized that the Gujarat Titans are still well-positioned in the points table despite their loss. He emphasized that although the Titans have lost three matches at home this season, they remain a formidable side and have a secure place in the competition.

"Everything that was going right for Gujarat fell apart this time. This has happened a few times now this season. They are still secure but losing three matches at home is not a great story. However, they are still a good side,” added the former opener.

Gujarat Titans are currently at the top of the IPL 2023 points table, having secured 12 points from nine games. On the contrary, Delhi Capitals are reeling at the bottom of the table with only six points in as many matches. The win against the Titans has given them a much-needed boost, but their chances of qualifying for the playoffs remain remote.
