Batting first, India lost quick wickets of Prithvi Shaw (0) and Mayank Agarwal (17). Afterwards, Cheteshwar Pujara (43) and Virat Kohli (74) provided much-needed support to the team.
Then, Ajinkya Rahane (42) was impressive to help India finish on 244. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins picked four and three wickets, respectively, for the hosts.
In response, Australia could not get a good start, but knocks from Tim Paine (73) and Marnus Labuschagne (43) powered them to 191. Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers for India with four scalps, while Umesh Yadav dismissed three batters.
In the second innings, Indian batting unit fell to the brilliance of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. The proficient line-length and optimum bounce from the surface helped both bowlers to induce an edge of Indian batters.
In fact, keeper Paine got hold of five catches, as India could only post 36/9, with Mohammed Shami being retired hurt.
Chasing a target of 90, openers Joe Burns (51*) and Matthew Wade (33) laid the platform to help Australia chase down the target easily.
