A total of two matches took place on Sunday in the Lanka Premier League 2022. Here's a brief report on the action that transpired between four exciting teams. 


Match 17: Galle Gladiators vs Jaffna Kings

Batting first, Kings had a positive start with Rahmanullah Gurbaz (23) and Avishka Fernando (18). Making his LPL debut, Afif Hossain arrived at No.3 and steered the team at a lavish rate by scoring 54 off 35. He added 66 runs for the third wicket with the in-form Sadeera Samarawickrama (32). 

In the end, Thisara Perera hit 13-ball 26, as Kings posted 170 on the board. Wahab Riaz picked three wickets for the Gladiators. In response, Thanuka Dabare (2) and Lahiru Udara (0) fell early in a chase., while reliable Asad Shafiq (10) could not convert his start as well. 

Kusal Mendis (58) and Nuwaindu Fernando (22) tried well to keep the team in the hunt. Afterwards, Iftikhar Ahmed (23) and Imad Wasim (14) got dismissed at the wrong time, an Kings won the game by 16 runs. Binura Fernando was the pick of the bowlers with three scalps.

Match 18: Kandy Falcons vs Dambulla Aura

Opting to bat first, Kaveen Bandara (27) provided a good start to Falcons,  and stitched constructive partnership with Minod Bhanuka (14) and Kamindu Mendis (19). In the middle-order, Ashen Bandara (37) and Najibullah Zadran (22) were impressive to guide the team to a total of 160. 

In response, Dambulla's key batters Shevon Daniel (0) and Jordan Cox (8) could not continue their glorious form. Afterwards, only Sikandar Raza (45) could be potent as other batters fell like a pack of cards. Oshane Thomas finished with figures of 3/15 and was named Player of the Match.
