One of the most destructive batters in world cricket, West Indies' Christopher Henry Gayle aka Universe Boss turns 44 today.

Born on 21 September 1979 in Kingston, the former Windies player ruled the batting charts in his prime and reinvented T20 cricket. Apart from being a highly successful batter, Gayle was known for his brilliant catching and smart bowling as well.

The hard-hitting opener made his international debut in 1999, playing an ODI against India, and soon found himself donning the whites in 2000 against Zimbabwe.

The T20 legend made his 20-over international debut in 2006 and changed the face of franchise cricket.

Gayle featured in 103 Tests, 301 ODIs, and 79 T20Is for the Windies between 1999 and 2021, amassing 19,593 runs which included 42 centuries, 105 half-centuries, and picked up 260 wickets, with three five-wicket hauls, and 240 dismissals.

To his credit, Gayle has a double hundred (215 vs Zimbabwe, World Cup 2015 ) in ODI cricket, double triple-centuries (333 vs Sri Lanka, 2010 and 318 vs South Africa, 2005) in Test, and two tons (117 vs South Africa, 2007 and 100* vs England, 2016) in T20I, which is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his on-field laurels.

Gayle has also been part of West Indies T20I World Cup-winning triumphs in 2012 and 2016.
