Having batted first in the opener, the hosts never really looked like posting a competitive and challenging total on the board. Opening batter Vishmi Gunaratne top-scored for her side with her innings of 26. No other player crossed the 20-run mark as Sri Lanka got restricted to a low score of just 106/9 in 20 overs.

All-rounder Amelia Kerr was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers for her spell of 2/19 in four overs. Eden Carson and Leigh Kasperek also managed to snare two scalps each for the visitors. Kerr then contributed with the bat with 34 off 28, while Suzie Bates struck 44 as she also grabbed the player of the Match award.

The White Ferns completed the chase, losing five wickets in 18.5 overs. Ahead of the second game, Sri Lanka will look to put up a better show and claim a victory to keep the series alive.
