The History of the Teams in World Cup

India

India is the joint second-most-successful team in the history of the tournament. They have been in the final three times before and lifted the trophy a couple of times.

The year 1983 was when Indian cricket was revolutionized. An underdog team under the leadership of a spirited skipper in Kapil Dev defeated the defending, the only (at that time), and the two-time World Champions, West Indies.

After this, the nation had to wait for 28 long years to get the taste of a World Cup victory. In 2011, India won their second ODI World Cup. But this time, they were the favourites, and the team contained some of the superstars of contemporary world cricket: Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, and Gautam Gambhir.

With a brilliant team, MS Dhoni's game-reading skills and on-field leadership ensured the 2011 trophy for the cricket-crazy nation. Since then, it has been 12 years, and Indian fans have been starved to see another Indian captain lifting the World Cup.

It is time for team India to break the jinx of big matches and get their name engraved on the ever-eluding trophy for the third time.

Champions: 1983, 2011
Runners-up: 2003

Australia

Australia have been the most successful team in the ODI World Cups. They have lifted the trophy five times.

The beginning of the 2000s was known as the era of the mighty Aussies when they remained undefeated in the World Cups. It is a general notion that Australians know how to win the World Cup, and once they smell the trophy, there is no stopping them.

This time, Pat Cummins would be looking to register himself in the esteemed list of Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke. A chance to make it six will get the Aussies going, and they will not be leaving an inch to the Indians.

Champions: 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007,  2015
Runners-up: 1975, 1996

IND vs AUS, Last Encounter

India and Australia faced off in the fifth match of the World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the match.

Jasprit Bumrah gave India an early breakthrough as he dismissed Mitchell Marsh before he could get off the mark. But after this, Steve Smith (46 off 71) and David Warner (41 off 52) steadied the ship for Australia and got them back on track.

However, once the Indian spinners arrived on the scene, the Australians were gradually outplayed. They lost their middle order (three wickets) in just nine runs and could never revive from the setback. Ultimately, the Aussies scored 199 runs in 49.3 overs before being bundled out. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India as he picked up three wickets for 28 runs in his ten overs.

It looked like India would get a comfortable victory over the Aussies at the halfway stage. But the five-time champions decided to fight back and had the 'Men in Blue' reeling at 3 for 2 in just the second over of the innings.

Virat Kohli (85 off 116) and KL Rahul (97* off 115) were not ready to give up so fast. The two batted steadily and stitched a 165-run partnership. India managed to win the match by six wickets with 52 balls remaining in the game. Rohit Sharma and his men will try to repeat the result and bring the trophy back to India for the third time.

IND vs AUS, Final: Narendra Modi Stadium, Pitch Report

The Narendra Modi Stadium has been one of the better-chasing grounds in the tournament. The team chasing won three of the four matches played here. This will be something the skipper will keep in mind during the toss.

As far as players are concerned, the batters will enjoy the surface in the second innings, while the bowlers, especially the spinners, will enjoy it during the first innings.

IND vs AUS, Final: Cricket Fantasy Expert Tips

The Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium will provide a highly competitive match between the two teams. It will be wise to have top-order batters from the team that chases, but a 1-4-2-4 or a 2-3-2-4 combination seems a good choice for the game.
