In a recent development, reportedly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar’s contract until June 2026. Appointed in June 2023, Agarkar’s tenure has been highly successful, overseeing India’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025 campaigns, a runner-up finish in the 2023 ODI World Cup, and a smooth transition in the Test and T20I squads.

This period also saw the high-profile retirements of stalwarts like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin from certain formats, alongside the appointment of new captains Shubman Gill (Tests) and Suryakumar Yadav (T20Is).

BCCI Extends Contract Till 2026 Ahead of IPL Season

As per a report from The Indian Express, Agarkar’s contract was renewed before Indian Premier League 2025. “Under his tenure the Indian team had won titles and had seen transition (of the Tests and T20) too. The BCCI had extended his contract till June 2026 and he had accepted the offer a few months back,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.

While the current panel includes SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath, changes are expected after the board’s annual meeting in September. Sharath, who was promoted to the senior committee in January 2023, is likely to be replaced upon completing his four-year term. “The board is likely to replace him with a new face,” it is learnt.

Selection Panel Changes Expected After Annual Meeting

The BCCI will be calling for fresh applications, though it remains unclear if Das and Banerjee will be retained. Reportedly, the board is pleased with the committee's work and only one change is anticipated.

The board would also invite applications for seniors women and junior men selection committees. With the Women's T20 World Cup scheduled next year, the entire women’s selection panel, including chairman Neetu David, will complete their five-year tenure, the maximum allowed as per BCCI regulations. Applications will also be invited for the junior men's selection committee, indicating a potential overhaul there as well.
