The IPL champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) drew a massive backlash after retaining controversial pacer, Yash Dayal, on the retention deadline day. The RCB pacer faces criminal charges in two separate cases - one in Jaipur and the other in Ghaziabad as he hogged the limelight in recent months, but for all the wrong reasons.
Due to the serious allegations against him, Dayal was also banned from playing in the UP T20 league. In the case registered against him in Ghaziabad, Dayal was reportedly accused of sexually and financially exploiting his long-term partner, and the allegations in Jaipur were a bit more serious, as Dayal was accused of raping a minor for two years.
RCB faces wrath on social media for retaining Yash Dayal
Despite the controversy, RCB retained him for next season, but the franchise faced wrath on social media as the fans decided to boycott the team.
"Absolutely shameful and horrific that they have retained Yash Dayal. Cannot root for them anymore. Disgusted."

"A team centered around Virat, the guy who has literally been the face of the club since inception, it’s ironical and diabolical that a guy like Yash Dayal still finds a place in the squad!!! Embarrassing from RCB!!"

"Yash Dayal who has a POSCO case going on currently and has been accused by multiple woman of misconduct has been retained by RCB. Meanwhile his state team UP had already dropped him due to these allegations. Shame on RCB."

Were RCB wrong in retaining Dayal?
It is to be noted that Dayal was booked under sections from both the POCSO Act and the BNS. Two separate FIRs have also been registered, but to date, nothing has been proven against him.
While teams are not legally bound to release players who are facing criminal charges, sporting organizations generally avoid keeping them in their team as it can harm their reputation. However, RCB went the other way around by retaining him and is facing backlash for this decision.
